Central Wisconsin Winter Classic
The Central Wisconsin Winter Classic is a unique outdoor hockey experience that brings our community together while supporting youth sports and promoting Central Wisconsin. The event transforms hockey into a full winter celebration with youth activities, community partnerships, and a family-friendly atmosphere. By creating a memorable outdoor event, we not only give young athletes opportunities to participate and grow, but we also attract visitors to the region, support local businesses, and showcase Central Wisconsin as a vibrant winter destination.
What is the Central Wisconsin Winter Classic?
•Central Wisconsin Winter Classic is an event similar to the NHL Winter Classic and Hockey Day in Minnesota that we celebrate the roots of the game and our community.
•This event is a 35th anniversary from the completion of the SWC 2000 football field and ice rink located next to WRPS Lincoln High School.
• SWC 2000 mission was to develop and maintain athletic and cultural facilities in South Wood County that enhances the quality of life for all ages. SWC Rec Center and football field were completed in 1992.
•The Central Wisconsin Winter Classic celebrates their accomplishments and builds off their work to support new opportunities by ensuring that facilities remain in top condition with repairs and technological improvements.
Why is this event important to our community?
•Although this event revolves primarily around the game of hockey it’s a great opportunity for our entire community. This event will show off the unique and diverse culture of Central Wisconsin by involving various groups from across the area. We want to emphasize the importance of support from the entire community as it will help support local businesses and put Central Wisconsin in the spotlight.
•The Central Wisconsin Winter Classic is important to South Wood County Youth Hockey because it enhances the player experience, grows participation, strengthens community partnerships, increases organizational visibility, and creates new financial opportunities that help sustain and grow hockey in the region.
